What mkt_tok does

Marketo, Adobe's enterprise marketing platform, appends mkt_tok to every tracked link in every email it sends. The token encodes the send: which campaign, and critically, which recipient. Click it and the visit is logged on your lead record, feeding scoring, segmentation and sales alerts, the machinery that tells a sales rep you opened the pricing page twice yesterday.

Like Mailchimp's mc_eid and HubSpot's _hsenc, this is a personally identifying parameter, not an anonymous label. It belongs in no link you share.

Is it safe to remove?

Yes, with one known edge case. Regular pages load identically without it. Marketo-hosted unsubscribe and preference pages sometimes use the token to know whose subscription to change; strip it there and the page may ask you to enter your email address instead of prefilling it. Nothing breaks, you just type.

Remove mkt_tok automatically

Rather's Link Shortener strips mkt_tok and hundreds of parameters like it, right in the address bar and in everything you copy or share. Free, open source, no account, no data collection, and the page you are on never breaks: the cleanup happens after the site has already loaded.
