Yandex's click identifiers: ysclid is stamped on links opened from Yandex search results, yclid on ad clicks, both matched by Yandex Metrica on the destination site.

What ysclid does

Yandex, the dominant search engine of the Russian-speaking web, appends ysclid to result links so the destination site's Yandex Metrica counter can tie the visit, and what happens during it, back to the exact search click. Its older sibling yclid does the same for Yandex Direct ad clicks.

The tokens started appearing on ordinary organic results around 2022, which is why they now ride along on plenty of links shared far outside Yandex itself.

Is it safe to remove?

Yes. Both are attribution-only tokens for Yandex Metrica; pages render identically without them.

Remove ysclid automatically

Rather's Link Shortener strips ysclid and hundreds of parameters like it, right in the address bar and in everything you copy or share. Free, open source, no account, no data collection, and the page you are on never breaks: the cleanup happens after the site has already loaded.
